Iraq hero medic's top gong - The Sun

AN army medic has received the nursing equivalent of the Military Cross for saving three soldiers’ lives while under attack.

Captain Gary King, 44, leapt from a helicopter and dodged enemy fire to reach the troops injured on foot patrol near Basra, Iraq, last year.

As mortars and bullets rained down, he tended their wounds before dragging them one by one to the safety of the chopper.

Prince Charles presented the dad of three with the Associate Royal Red Cross at Buckingham Palace on Saturday.

But the modest Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps hero, of Bath, Somerset, said: “I was only doing my job.

“Rounds were winging around but you focus on the casualty.”
